Emma's whirlwind weekend
Mommy and Emma went on a road trip to NJ last weekend, to attend Aunt Megan's (aka Mimi) baby shower. We drove down Friday afternoon, and after six hours in the car, it was time to get outside and stretch our legs and breathe some fresh air, so Emma and Grandpa Hunter (aka "Gahpa") bundled up in their snowpants and headed outside for some sledding. Grandpa made a few runs first to get a nice track down the hill in the back yard (along with Brie the dog's help) and then he and Emma piled on the sled and down they went! Mommy told Emma she should enjoy being carried back up the hill while it lasts, since the walk back up is always the worst part of any sledding expedition. After the downhill sledding, Grandpa took Emma for a ride up and down the driveway, which she enjoyed a lot, then Mommy and Emma watched Grandpa go sledding down the steep hill on the side of the house by himself for a while. (Mommy totally wanted to go, but hadn't packed her own snowpants, rats!!) After heading back inside, Emma asked Gahpa to play Weebles with her and the two of them hunkered down on the floor to play. Turns out that Gahpa likes playing Weebles as much as Emma does! The next day was Mimi's shower, and Mommy is chagrined to report that she has NO photos from the party! (If anyone out there has some digital pictures from the shower, please email copies to me!) However, a lovely time was had by all, especially Emma who enjoyed playing Aunt Honda's piano, playing with the balloons, and hanging out with Uncle Joel and Uncle Jim (in the other room away from all the estrogen). Uncle Joel even got out some crayons and colored with Emma, which shot him back up to the top of Emma's Favorite Uncle list. After the shower and a nap for Em, she came downstairs to discover various relatives hanging out in the family room. Uncle Joel quickly slipped out of first place when Em spotted Uncle Matt, with whom she promptly began juggling Weebles, just like he had taught her at Christmas. Later on in the evening, Uncle Mike and cousin Hunter came over, and Uncle Mike bumped Uncle Matt out of the top spot by giving Em a ride in his hands, which cracked her up and she begged him to do again and again. First thing Sunday morning, Emma had a quick breakfast and hung out with Grandma and Grandpa for a little while, then we were out the door and on the road back up to Rochester. Thanks, as always, to the Wallmanns and the DeGrays, as Mommy surely would have been driven insane had she not had the VCR and Elmo tapes to break up the nonstop Wiggles songs on the ride!
