Sledding Emma
The day finally arrived when it was snowy enough and yet warm enough for Emma to try out sledding for the first time! Emma was less than thrilled at all the layers Mommy bundled her into, but then Mommy got bundled up too, which Em seemed to appreciate - at least she was giggling quite a bit at the sight. Once we got out into the driveway, Mommy set the sled down and plunked Emma down on top of it. We then set off for a walk, which Emma enjoyed, as exemplified by her constant comments of "Oh boy!" and "Snowy!" and "Whee!" and "Cold!" as we went. She hasn't learned to yell "MUSH!" to Mommy yet, even though Mommy was playing the part of the sled dog and pulling Em all around the neighborhood. When we returned to our house, Mommy pulled Emma up onto the snow in the front yard. Emma and the sled stayed on top of the snow, but Mommy wasn't wearing snowshoes, so pulling Emma around in thigh-deep snow didn't last too long! Emma really wanted to get off the sled and investigate the snow anyhow, so off she climbed. She found her mittens to be a bit cumbersome and insisted on repeatedly pulling them off so she could grab the snow more easily. After a few rounds of "Mitten Off! Mitten On!" we headed back indoors to warm up. Mommy unbundled Emma and then as Mommy was unbundling herself, Em made a beeline for her book Snow, which she sat down and read to herself for a while, taking special interest in the pages about sledding. Since she also loves the part in the book about the snowman, Ned, Mommy and Daddy can't wait to get her out in the yard again to make her very own!
