An Afternoon in the Life of Emma
Emma and I spent the afternoon yesterday with her friend Omar and his mom, Nipa. Em and Omar were quite excited to see each other (as excited as two one year olds can be) and quickly started playing together while the mommies had some lunch. Emma and Omar are clearly fascinated by the same things, namely cabinets of any shape or size. After mooching some potato chips off of the moms' plates, we all went for a walk, along with Omar's dog, Sierra. Emma was very excited to hang out with Sierra, too - she seems to think Sierra is a larger version of her favorite cat, Chloe. Sierra was very patient with Emma as she poked and pulled and petted her, even when Em tried to take her ear off or pull on her tail. The kids both snoozed for a bit in the strollers, but still managed to get pretty warm (it was surprisingly hot out) so when we got back to the house, we cooled off with a snack that included popsicles, which were refreshing for the moms and also nice on the kids' teething gums. Then we headed into the living room where Emma and Omar played for the longest time! They checked out Omar's different toys (as well as Omar's dad's stereo equipment!), played with his riding toy which made revving sounds that Em loved, played with Omar's workbench and even caught up on the latest issue of Newsweek, though Emma was more interested in eating the Spiderman 2 article than reading it! The kids played for so long that it was 4:00 before they decided they were ready for naps! Emma was so tired out that she was asleep before we even pulled out of the driveway. Emma can't wait to play with Omar again!
