Things big girls do
Emma thinks she is quite cool now that she is a "big girl" of 9 months old. One thing she insists on doing on her own is feeding herself, which means her repetoire of foods has expanded to accommodate the new "I can do it myself with my own two hands" baby attitude. We've taken to providing a variety of finger foods for Emma to eat at the start of every meal. Some of the new foods you may spot on Em's tray include Kix cereal, which gets very sticky when it comes in contact with Emma's drool. Em could've sworn there was a Kix somewhere in the vicinity of her mouth... She also had her first taste of tater tot the other night, when it was warm enough that Daddy could grill up some hot dogs and Mommy wanted tots to go with 'em. Emma still hasn't eaten any meat yet, but we think chicken is in her near future... Other things Em now eats include Goldfish crackers (though she didn't know quite what to make of them at first), pasta (elbows cut in half work well) and scrambled eggs. Her favorite finger food remains Cheerios, which she will eat all day long if we'd let her!
Now that she is 9 months old, Emma is finally growing some real hair, which is especially noticeable when she is in the tub. Being a big girl means Em is ready to relax with a good book while she soaks in the tub by the end of her busy day. (We said relax with the book - we didn't say she actually reads it!) Emma recently made her first visit to the public library to pick out some books, and she really enjoys hearing a good story. (She also enjoyed looking at the big aquarium in the wall of the children's section.) Her favorite book these days is one that her Uncle Joel gave her for Christmas - Hop on Pop. She isn't quite crawling yet, but seems to be getting closer to an actual crawl every day, pushing up on all fours and rocking back and forth more and more. In the meantime, she gets around by a combination of rolling and scooching that gets her everywhere she wants to go - like under the coffee table, where she will hang out and play all day if Mommy would stop pulling her out from underneath (something about conking her head against the table legs...). She seems to appreciate the acoustics that the underside of the coffee table provides for a talkative baby. Crazy kid!
