Playtime!
When you are Emma's age, playtime is your job, and Emma takes her "job" very seriously! For example, Emma had a playdate with her friend Alex on Saturday afternoon. In Em's world, this is like having a meeting, dontcha know. On Sunday, Emma capped off an afternoon of shopping at the outlet mall (for lots of clothes for her, mostly!) with some serious playtime with her Mom and Dad. She started out by looking at herself and Daddy in the mirror on her big activity cube, then moved on to standing behind the cube without even holding on! That segued into standing by her big, purple ball, but the best way to play with the ball is to roll on it (she likes to stick her legs straight out) or bounce on it or bang on it like a drum. After playing on the ball for a while, Emma went back to playing with her cube. She demonstrated how it is important to strike a nonchalant pose when throwing toys (or anything else) onto the floor. She played a game of "Find the hidden Daddy" and always managed to find him, too. Another game that Emma enjoys is called "Hat" and involves putting a toy on someone's head, then taking it off again. Trust us, if you're 9.5 months old, this is hilarious. Emma finds it funniest when Mommy or Daddy are wearing the "hat" but she also likes to show off how well she can balance a "hat" on her head, too! Emma has begun crawling, though more often than not she prefers to crawl military style, as though there were yards of barbed wire stretched approximately 6 inches off any floor. Perhaps she is a future Marine? After crawling over to Mommy, Emma promptly was turned upside down and had her belly chomped on, which always makes her laugh very hard! She thinks it is a lot of fun to be an upside down baby! After all that playing, Emma was pretty pooped out, so she snuggled on the floor with Mommy for a bit and then headed off for a bath. A hard day's play!
