Poconos 2003
We just got back from our annual Poconos trip, which was, of course, Emma's first. Emma does pretty well in the car for long rides (and due to some early winter weather from Rochester to Binghamton, the ride was extra-long on the way down), but she isn't fond of the "trick" Mommy and Daddy play on her when she is freed from the confines of the carseat halfway through the drive for a meal and change, and then cruelly strapped back in again. She seems to believe that once she's out, she's out and chooses to voice her displeasure at the reconfinement quite emphatically for the duration of the ride. This usually means whoever isn't driving has to climb in back to try to pacify Em, with varying levels of success. Other than that one travel-related crankiness, Emma had a fantabulous time playing with all her friends for the weekend. Here's the photo recap:
- Here is the whole gang and here are just the kids, who were all in their jammies for the shot. (Devon wasn't really in the mood for a picture right then...)
- The kids all have parents who went to Syracuse University (and in one case, Boston College), so each year they show off that they are Orangekids, and how because of that, they'll never be prone to get scurvy...
- One activity the kids thought was fun involved jumping on the beds in the various rooms. Emma, as you can see, didn't do any jumping like the bigger kids, but she made up for it when we got home by bouncing extra-hard in her Jolly Jumper.
- Emma seems to like boys already! She enjoyed hanging out with her older friend, Collin, who took good care with her, and also with Devon, who is only a month and a half younger than Emma. Devon and Emma enjoy a lot of the same activities, including relaxing in their bouncy chairs, chatting in the diner where we ate Friday morning since the power was knocked out at the house, hanging out on the couch, gnawing on their hands and getting very drooly, and sharing tummy time on the floor. You'll notice Emma already is showing some amazing yoga skills in her "flying pose" during tummy time!
- Emma, Collin, Rilee and their mommies got all bundled up to go for a walk (along with Collin's dog, Jackson) while the daddies were playing basketball, but it was very chilly so the walk didn't last long! Emma did look quite cute in her Winnie the Pooh hat and mittens though!
- The main activities in the Poconos every year are eating, playing board games, hanging out in the hot tub and generally relaxing. Emma especially enjoyed relaxing with her Daddy in her full-on "Snugglebunny" mode (note the bunny slippers to complete the effect).
