Emma's Baptism
This past weekend was very special for the Smith family. Emma was baptised on Sunday morning and the event was made extra-special by the presence of many of our family and friends. People came from all over NY and NJ, and Emma had a great time with everyone! We have loads of pictures to share, so without further ado:
- Emma finally got to meet a bunch of her relatives, including Aunt Megan and Uncle Matt, her other Uncle Matt who came to NY all the way from Colorado, and Uncle Joel, Aunt Honda and Uncle Jim Bielefeldt. Emma really took to Uncle Joel, who has promised that he will be the Tickle Monster when Emma gets a little bigger the same way her Mommy was Tickle Monster to Joel when he was little! (Emma is in trouble, but Mommy is glad the revenge will be wrought on the next generation and not on her!) Emma also met her great, great Aunty and Uncle Joe, her great, great Uncle Frank and Aunt Ann, and her great Uncle Frank. Lots of "great" relatives everywhere Emma looked!
- Emma went out to a restaurant for the very first time on Saturday night, when about 15 of us all ate together at the Olive Garden. Emma was being quite a ham while she was at Mommy and Daddy's end of the table, but when she went to hang out with her aunts and uncles at the other end, she promptly fell asleep on Aunt Megan and stayed that way for the rest of the meal.
- Here are Emma and Mommy before the church service on Sunday. Emma wore the christening gown that had been made for her great, great grandmother, which we are estimating is well over 100 years old. It was very beautiful and very delicate, and we were happy that Emma fit into it.
- We had a pretty big crowd at church for the service!
- Here is Pastor Bonnie baptising Emma as her parents and grandparents look on.
- Emma slept through the whole service, including her photo opportunities with her godmother, Cathy; Gramma Bindert; Uncle Jim, Aunt Honda & Uncle Joel; and Uncle Matt & Aunt Megan, Grandpa & Grandma Hunter, and Aunt Amy & Uncle Mike.
- After the service, everyone came back to the house for a reception, featuring lots and lots of food. Emma thinks her favorite would've been the chocolate cake her cousin Stephanie baked, but no one would let her have a piece. However, she seemed to win the chubby cheeks contest with her Uncle Mike despite a diet that consists of only formula, and no cake.
